Medicine collection drive in Surat organized by Global Shapers Community
Surat: Global Shapers Community’s Surat hub is launching on this Sunday, 31st of May 2015. The Global Shapers Community is a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities. It is an Initiative of the World Economic Forum based out of Geneva, Switzerland.
Before the launch of the hub on 31st May, the Surat hub is also organizing a mega medicine collection drive where they are calling people from all parts of the city to donate unused & unwanted medicines. This can be done at more than 10 medicine collection centres across the city & one can call on 9327378999 to know more about the same. You can connect with them on Facebook (Facebook.com/SuratGlobalShapers) or on Twitter (GSCSurat).
“Do we know that each of us waste a rupee each day in the form of waste medicines. This is a huge amount when we consider the entire city or country wasting a rupee a day. This is also a huge impact on the landfills and increases the environmental burden. MediPost is a very basic solution which can be scaled to masses & can also be implemented in the simplest of its forms.” says Aakruti Dalmia, the Vice Curator of the Surat hub and one of the inceptors of the project in the hub.
To this, Kushal Surana, a Shaper in the hub adds “MediPost can help improve the state of life of needy people by doing a very small bit of donating medicines and can eventually help in creating a lot of difference in the society.”
So, do your bit today by reaching to one of the collection centers of the Surat hub and donating the unused medicines you have been saving since long.

About Global Shapers Community

With more than 400 hubs across the world today having more than 5000 shapers in them, the Global Shapers Community is committed to improve the state of the world. It is a non-profit organization and consists of people between 20 to 29 years of age. A Shaper (member of the Global Shapers Community) voluntarily becomes a part of the organization and tries to do his/her bit to contribute back to the society. Today, there are around 25 hubs in India with a hub in almost all the major cities of the country.
The Surat hub was formed in the month of May, 2014 by Mr. Vardan Kabra, the Founding Curator of the hub. Some other people joined after the formation of the hub and today, it has a team of 15 strong Shapers. The shapers of Surat pick up various projects which they can do to make the city a better place to live in. One of the projects that the hub has been doing is called MediPost. MediPost aims at collection of unwanted & unused medicines from people and then, distribution of the same to the needy. It is a simple project which aims at reducing the amount of medicines we waste daily after they get expired and also to reduce the impacts we are making on the landfills.
